Background and Aim: Performance evaluation is a systematic and formal process used to assess employees at defined intervals. Identifying high-performing personnel and rewarding them to motivate both individual and organizational improvement are among the primary objectives of this process. This study aimed to identify performance metrics used in the evaluation of personnel in key healthcare professions within military medical centers. In this regard, the concepts of performance and its evaluation were first examined from the perspectives of experts, followed by a review of common approaches and methods in performance evaluation systems.
Methods: This research was designed as a descriptive-survey study. The statistical population consisted of experts and specialists in the healthcare field within a military organization. In the qualitative phase, key individuals were identified using purposive sampling with maximum variation, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with them. Data were collected through these interviews, and after qualitative content analysis, relevant performance metrics were extracted.
Results: Based on the findings of the study, the main performance evaluation metrics for healthcare professions include: adherence to professional guidelines and standards in service delivery, compliance with safety principles, establishment of effective and continuous communication, attention to training and development of specialized and professional skills, responsibility in service delivery, adherence to professional ethics and appropriate conduct, and commitment to individual discipline.
Conclusion: Identifying and applying appropriate performance metrics in the evaluation process enables more precise decision-making regarding career advancement, identification of training needs, and improvement of employee competencies. This ultimately leads to the optimal utilization of human resources and enhances organizational productivity and effectiveness.
